Easy Steps for Flawless Eyeshadow Application
With patience and practice, anyone can master the art of flawless eyeshadow application. With the right tools and complementing colors, you can do it easily at home. From choosing neutral shades of shadow for everyday makeup and darker and dramatic colors for parties or special occasions, you can mix and match colors to create dramatic looks to amp up your look. Here are a few steps you can follow to master the art of applying eyeshadow.
1. Primer base
Always apply a primer over the eyelid so that the eyeshadow stays on throughout the day. If you are going in for a fuller eyeshadow application, apply the base right through the brow; however, if you are limiting the eyeshadow to the crease, then use the primer only up to the crease. You can apply a primer using your finger, but it is recommended that beginners use a Q-tip or a brush.
2. Eyelids
Once you decide on the color, you can use the blending brush and dip it in the shadow and sweep the color on your eyelid. You can then close your eyes and blend it across the eye simultaneously smoothing the rough lines. You can make it darker if you want to go for a dramatic look. But, for everyday makeup, it is recommended to go for neutral colors. You can experiment and even add some shimmer on the inner and outer corners of the eye for parties or fancy occasions.
3. Crease
Once you apply the shadow on the eyelids, you can then choose a shadow that is a shade darker for the crease. Ensure to start from the inside and blend in the darker shade until you have a smooth line. If you have a 3-color palette, choose the darkest shade. In the case of a 4-color palette, choose a dark color. Apply with a brush for a smoother finish.
4. Highlighter
With a blender brush, use the lightest color in the palette and blend it just above the crease. Do not use darker shades and ensure that the color does not reach the brow. Also, ensure that both the eyes have similar shades. Any difference in the shade in both eyes could end up spoiling your look as it will be visible to others.
You can add some shimmer using a shimmer eyeshadow or a shimmer pencil. You can also add a complementary color to the inner corner of the eye to make your eye makeup stand out.
As far as eye makeup goes, it needs perseverance and many trials to get it right every time. As you practice, you will instinctively begin to understand the nuances about which brush to use, when to use short strokes, and when to use circular motions. Before buying a product, test if the eyeshadow palette has shades that are closer to your skin tone. There is a varied range of eyeshadow products available. If you buy a product on a whim, you may end up wasting money on a shade that may not match your skin tone. You can visit the store and ask the beauty consultants to help you with a test application so that you can judge what will suit you best.
