Simple Eyeliner Styles for Beginners

Most of us may have at one point wondered what’s the big fuss about an eyeliner; as all we need to do is draw two small lines until we realized it wasn’t. A minute shake of the hand, blinking of an eye, or opening your eye a microsecond earlier could completely ruin your makeup. Eyes are not only your window to the world, but the eye also expresses your emotions and personality. What eyeliner do is convey your emotion and attitude to those around you. They also help you to bring out the fullness of your eyes. They can make small eyes look big and big eyes look small as well. It all depends on how effectively you use the lines. How you style your eyes helps you to pull off any look. A simple style can give you a classic look, whereas the winged or the fishtail style can match with a trendy outfit. Some of the simple styles that are popular and easy to try for beginners are as follows:

1. Natural style
This simple style highlights the natural shape of the eye. This is ideal for daily makeup and is easy to achieve. You can start by drawing small strokes along your upper eyelash. Never try to do one single stroke from one end to another until you practice it often. You can use kohl and lift your upper eye area and draw another line and use it to fill in the waterline. This will complete the natural style.

2. Heavy bottom style
This style gives your eye a bold look. You can use a creamy kajal and apply it along your waterline. You can also use a smudge brush and slightly extend it to the bottom lash line to make it look thicker. You can use a matching eyeshadow to make it look even better.

3. Cat-eye style
One of the trendy styles that started on the runway and then became popular among young girls and women. You can draw a tiny angular line at the outer corner of the eye and connect it with a line from the lower lash line. Extend this to the center of the eye and stop midway. Now you will have a small triangle. Draw a line from the inner corner of the eye and you have the perfect cat-eye style.

4. Dramatic eye
Very similar to the cat-eye style, this is more glamorous and best suited for parties. Start with a line from the lower lash and draw a line at the outer corner of the eye; this can reach right to the end of the eyebrow. Now continue to take the line to the center of the eyelid. And you can fill the wing shape that has formed. For this style, you can leave the lower waterline light and unfilled and the top eyelash filled. This brings out a dramatic finish. Pencil eyeliner is best suited for this style.

5. Double winged style
This is exactly like a winged style. You can extend the bottom waterline parallel to the wing shape in the top lash. You will then have a filled wing on the top and an extended line on the bottom, both extending outward from the eye.

These styles are easy to practice for a person who is just beginning to learn to use an eyeliner. Once you get adept at using either pencil eyeliner or kohl, you can try different colors and combinations as, today, most brands have many color options for eyeliner.
