Types of Lasers Used for Hair Removal
If you are willing to spend more money in order to get smooth, hairless skin, then opting for laser hair removal treatment may be a great choice. This treatment is a more permanent solution to getting hairless skin. Laser hair removal is a high-tech method that uses light to destroy your hair follicles, thereby leaving you with stubble-free skin. The best part about laser hair removal treatment is that it is not complicated at all.
The laser destroys the root of every hair that it treats; hence, once the root is destroyed, it can’t produce more hair. Laser hair removal works best on the bikini area, lip, chin, and underarm areas of the body. It should also be noted that people with thick, coarse, and dark hair make the best candidates for laser hair removal treatments.
There are three main types of lasers that are used for laser hair removal treatment. These have been explained in brief as follows:
1. Diode
Delivering high energy into the skin is the key to a successful diode laser hair removal. This energy is then absorbed by the melanin surrounding the hair follicle. It does not, however, damage or impact the surrounding tissues. Diode lasers use a single wavelength of light that has a very high abruption rate in the melanin. The melanin heats up to destroy the root thereby disabling the hair growth permanently. Some high-quality diode lasers make use of a crystal-freeze refrigeration contact cooling system that helps to protect the surface of the skin; therefore, the treatment is pain-free and comfortable for the patient. Diode lasers deliver high frequency as well as low-frequency pulses and they can be safely used on all skin types.
2. Alexandrite
This laser type is the fastest of all and it works best when it comes to treating larger body areas. The Alexandrite laser is also best suited for people with light to olive skin tone. This laser emits high energy light through an Alexandrite crystal, thereby producing a beam of light around 755 nm. This laser light is red in color. Alexandrite laser is also used for treating age spots, spider veins, vascular birthmarks, and also for tattoo removal. When compared to the other types of lasers in the market, the wavelength of the light is the only thing that sets the Alexandrite laser apart.
3. Nd:YAG
This is a long pulse laser that can be safely used on all skin types. This laser can also be used on tanned skin. When compared to other lasers, it is, however, less effective when it comes to treating people with light or fine hair. The Nd:YAG laser is a long-pulsed laser that emits a beam of light at around 1064 nm and is highly effective for hair removal treatment in patients with darkly pigmented skin. Apart from hair removal, this laser type is also used extensively in the field of medicine. It is a safe and effective method for laser hair removal, thereby leaving you with smooth hairless skin permanently.
